I am a geriatric mental health counselor licensed in Virginia and New York. My focus is the treatment of late-life depression. I am one of twelve clinicians in the U.S. certified in Engage Therapy. This brief, evidence-based treatment was developed at the Weill Cornell Institute of Geriatric Psychiatry by Dr. George Alexopoulos.
ENGAGE is particularly effective for those suffering from depression that is related to:
  • Changes in your health or health of a loved one
  • Loss of independence
  • Family disputes
  • Bereavement
  • Retirement
Treatment usually involves from six to nine sessions and can be delivered in person or via videoconference.
I am also a Certified NYU Caregiver Intervention Counselor and support group facilitator. In this role, I work with spouses and family members who are experiencing the life changes that result from a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease or other age-related cognitive impairments.
In addition, I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.  As an EMDR therapist, I am able to assist older clients who want to address traumatic events from their past and resolve them.
My practice specializes in promoting the mental wellness of adults age 50 or older.
This involves not only treating problems, but also using proven therapy techniques to enhance the mental resilience and well-being of those who are functioning well, but want more satisfaction in their lives.
Currently I do not accept insurance. However, I do offer a sliding scale based on ability to pay. Please contact me for details.
If you would like to speak to me, I offer all prospective clients an initial phone-based assessment at no charge. Please call 804-869-0524 or fill in the contact form on this site.
