I am a licensed geriatric mental health counselor specializing in the treatment of late-life depression. I am one of twelve clinicians in the U.S. certified in Engage Therapy. This brief, evidence-based treatment was developed at the Weill Cornell Institute of Geriatric Psychiatry by Dr. George Alexopoulos. It is particularly effective for those suffering from depression related to changes in health or health of a loved one, loss of independence, family disputes, bereavement or caregiver status. Treatment usually involves from six to nine sessions and can be delivered in person or via videoconference (New York residents only).
I am a Certified NYU Caregiver Intervention Counselor and support group facilitator. In this role, I work with spouses and family members who are experiencing the life changes that result from a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease or other age-related cognitive impairments.
In addition, I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. As an EMDR therapist, I am able to assist older clients who want to address traumatic events from their past and resolve them.
My practice specializes in promoting the mental wellness of “experienced” adults. This involves not only treating problems, but also using therapy techniques to enhance the mental resilience of those who are functioning well, but want more satisfaction in their lives.
